Ray Angelini, President, Ray Angelini, Inc., addresses General Services Administrator Martha Johnson (seated, second from right), GSA and VA employees, roofers, electricians and the media at a gathering to commemorate the completion of the new solar system that will generate enough energy to power 55 houses.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (June 19, 2010)—Ray Angelini, President of Ray Angelini, Inc., addressed guests Thursday, June 17, 2010, on the roof of the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Veterans Affairs (VA) Regional Office and Information Center at 5000 Wissahickon Ave., Philadelphia, in an event held to commemorate and view the new energy-efficient solar project atop the five story building, one of 218 active federal building construction projects across the nation funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Angelini joined General Services Administrator Martha Johnson, GSA and VA employees, roofers, electricians and the media, adjacent to the 1,937-panel array his firm recently designed, built, and installed on the 133,000 square foot roof, to share the story of partnering with Sharp® solar panel manufacturer, three minority subcontractors and a local roofing company to complete the project in just nine months, through inclement winter weather conditions, and of the benefits it brought to his company as well as to the local, regional and national economy.

“This project alone created 35 jobs,” said Angelini.  “Plus, the amount of energy generated from the solar system, which will offset the building’s electric bill, equates to enough to power 55 houses.”

Other speakers included Takahiko Tanimoto, Senior Executive Vice President, Sharp Electronics Corp; David Farragut, President, US Roofing, Norristown, PA; Elaine Prince, Manna Supply, Tabernacle, NJ; and electrician Lane Lundberg of IBEW Local 98, age 40, from Medford, NJ, a father of three who was laid off in October 2009.

Lundberg said he was called back on the job by Ray Angelini, Inc. in February and learned the new skills involved in installing solar panels. “It was a wonderful situation for me and my family,” said Lundberg.

Founded in 1974 by Raymond J. Angelini of Woodbury, NJ, RAI was the primary electrical contractor on the Cobbs Creek Market Street Elevated Reconstruction Project recently named ‘Project of the Year’ at the March of Dimes 17th Annual Transportation, Building & Construction Awards Luncheon.
