Ray Angelini, Inc. (RAI) designed, built, installed and commissioned a 574 kilowatt solar energy system for the Jersey City, NJ, Liberty Science Center (LSC), canopy-mounted, in five rows, in the center’s parking lot. The 2,392-240-watt panels; 43,000 sq. ft. of canopies; two 260 KW 480 volt inverters; 10 combiner boxes; and miles of conduit and wire will keep 1,377,742 pounds/year of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere. RAI also provided under-canopy LED lighting and 12 Electric Vehicle Chargers which will further reduce the carbon footprint for this facility.
In the project’s early stages, RAI discovered environmental issues and cost/time inefficiencies with foundations. A new design to mitigate those factors required changing 47 foundations. In spite of this setback, RAI completed the project on-time and within budget with zero recordable injuries.
